  4.     The Thai armed forces are disturbed by your article on the
  5. international drug trade (NATION, Aug. 28). Instead of an
  6. objective report, you tarnish the efforts made by Thailand's
  7. government to suppress drug trafficking. You take a swipe at the
  8. Royal Thai Army in claiming that army helicopters are sometimes
  9. used to transport heroin. If the army were given conclusive
  10. evidence of examples of this use, such as the type and the serial
  11. number of the helicopters, then it would investigate straightaway.
  12. The Thai armed forces will not tolerate such misconduct by its men.
  13. If TIME does not have such evidence, then it should not have
  14. published these charges. You should give credit to the armed
  15. forces' moves to combat the drug problem by giving aid to domestic
  16. and international antidrug agencies. These efforts have resulted
  17. in the seizure of sizable quantities of drugs on many occasions --
  18. news that rarely makes the headlines in your magazine.
